    1. It's probably the tears that you shed at night, knowing your own skills are just as bad or worse than these fellas. It's okay. Don't cry.

  4. the ones i know are Iron man colors Banshee unicorn gundam, minelayer Zaku, the justice is actually named "burning Justice" (hense the flames along the edges) and the Sinanju Stein is Stryderprime's.

    1. well, apparently "iron man's color scheme" doesn't suit gunpla, at least the ones here.
most of these have very poor and crappy color combinations that makes it all shitty,
sure they have great to awesome painting, modding skills, but that doesn't go well with poor choice of colors.
such a shame that with their skills, they really haven't put any thoughts on what combinations of color would complement each other and would actually look good on gunpla.

    2. IMO, if you're going to color it like Ironman, might as well modify it to look like Ironman as well.
Your gunpla might not look as cool or awesome as other works but at least it's amusing.

    1. I want someone to make a white Banshee, no not a white normal Unicorn. A white Banshee with all the gold parts and orange psychoframe

    2. Why don't you make one yourself, dumbass? Oh wait. You probably don't have the skills too huh?

  6. Hehe, that Hyaku Shiki, used the same colors in my Gundam Breakers game. It's not really bad but I bet everyone thinks of doing that at some point

  7. Anyone here know how to avoid that "grainy" finish? I keep getting that when I use my white paint.

  8. LMAO @How much hate this blog has now. Just as bad as a chan site.

  9. I feel terrible. I'm not a good builder myself.
But, after seeing the entries of Asian countries, looking at these I was like "meh..". Even Asian's junior category entries were a lot better than these.
I hope part II will be much better.

  10. A good paint job does not justify a terrible color scheme.

  16. Pretty much every post there is about a competition or hat not there is 95% hate in the comments. Do not know why I bother reading anymore. If they are so bad, I am sure everyone can show them and submit there's but wont.

    1. People who hate on kits probably can't paint themselves. They don't have the drive to paint their kits like some people do. I give credit where it is needed. Everyone who entered deserves a round of applause for their hard work.

Even with the asian "slap multiple layers of parts onto one kit and call it a masterpiece" kits, you still have to give credit for the hard work.

      Delete
    2. Seriously? Anyone who knows how to paint kits and has experience will tell you - most these models are average and I am frankly shocked the winner is a pretty mundane looking stein with a wonky camo pattern. People need to grow some balls and understand - it's not hating, it's being honest. Well done indeed for the hard work everyone put into these but they are not competition standard by a long shot.

  17. hmmmm -_- that gm cannon II test type .... it's something

  18. It's so sad that everyone is so negative and have nothing nice to say about the entrants. I don't see any of YOUR gunpla with YOUR color schemes up there? I don't believe YOU won the world cup.

    Exactly.

Stop being haters and start SUPPORTING the Gunpla community and the creativity that goes along with it.

    1. Telling someone "it looks bad" should inspire them to improve if anything, as well as grow a layer of skin and fatten up those balls. This "lets be nice to everyone to be careful not to offend anyone" is what bogs the community down in bullshit and stagnates the talent all the time. Learn to take the crits, improve, then tell those people to GFT when you pull off something spectacular.

      Delete
    2. I agree that the "Let's be nice" is bullshit. Just look at how they categorize the prizes...

This is amazing really since I see tonnes of outstanding completed models in US-based forums.

I'm not saying the kits are shit, I'm saying, the kits aren't GBWC level yet. If this was featured as local completed models, I'm sure people would be less critical.

      Delete
    3. Because they are simply bad, we are become honest and thats reality. Looks like modeller even doesnt have basic skill, I am ok if its Junior but its open category. Heck even some juniors in Asian are much better

      Delete
    4. Agree with annon 2 completely. These kits seem to be misplaced in the judging. I only see maybe 3 at best the deserve to be in the open category. Jr. at best.

  19. the difference between "criticizing" and "bashing" is that the former takes the time to point flaws and provide advises to the creator on how to improve better, while the latter express much more on hatred while providing limited useful feedback. As educated individuals as yourselves, I can safely assume you have the capabilities of express your opinions in much pleasant ways, but then again, this is the internet.
As of the comparison with the Asian entries, the styles of builds are very different. It is true that the Asian entries winners are in a different caliber than the westerns, but categorize our entries as garbage and belittle our efforts do very little to improve the community.
As the creator of MK II, I understood clearly that my entry will not be placed in any major category in any competition in a world scale. I sincerely welcome constructive criticisms to improve my skills. I also would like to take the opportunity to encourage people to be mature with their comments, but what can I do, this is the internet...

    1. Simply learn the basics. The MKII's paintwork is average and you and most of the participants definitely should learn how to pose your kits. The MKII's articulation is great, and you didn't even bother to utilize them.

that is the initial pose with the Zaku II; the judges separated them away from each during the judging process to have better views of both kits.

    3. Well said Li, there's a whole lot bashing and not a single ounce of constructive criticisms among 40+ mindless anonymous posts. These guys put a lot of work in and will likely do so again for the next year; telling them all that their work "looks like crap" helps no one.

If you want to see better entries next year, then I suggest providing valid advice that will help them improve their work.

Li, your MkII was very clean work, the paint was very smooth but in my opinion I feel it could use a bit more definition, maybe try your hand at some pre-shading or even get a little more creative with the colour scheme.

      Delete
    4. Thanks for the feedback Sean, pre-shading will definitely improve the overall feel of the kit. I actually like to do custom color scheme; I swap the color scheme for Sinanju and Unicorn back few years ago, and they look awesome together =P.

    5. You have to understand that people here will look at the post as a whole. Not everyone has enough time to criticize each one of the entries. Putting a critique on a single entry will also get you bashed for being "unfair" or biased against the said entry.

Anyways, I did like your entry. Clean, simple, but yes, the pose could use some work. Even the pose with the Zaku looks boring. Little modifications here and there wouldn't be bad either.

    6. "LEARN TO MOD"

coming from a Anon who probably doesnt know how to properly build a model or even know how to scratch build ;)

  20. If you guys want to see some good Gunpla built by folks in the US. Come to the Southern California Gundam Competition in Fullerton California on November 9. Three previous NA GWBC representatives compete there as well as provide live, hands on demos such as airbrushing, proper cutting, and seam line work.

    1. The kits still aren't up to the Asian BAKUC/GBWC skill level...

      Delete
  21. I came here to get inspired for my first build, but generally rather dissapointed with what I see here.
yes theres good kits shown here, but not that takes my breath away and actually sigh in awe as most of other GBWC entries from my home country/Asia.
the best one I see here is the hangar IMO, but then again the concept of a fighting machine that is as slick and glossy as a sportcar is rather lost to me.
paintjobs that looks sticky, paint scheme that doesent work, sloppy lining, using thick black lining in subtle line that clash with the color scheme, using metallic paint that have large grains that takes away the illusion of size (you'd forced to perceive the kit as small sized, instead the illusion that Gundam is few stories high). awkward/stiff non dynamic pose (i work in animation industry so i know a little about posing), visible seam and eyesore nib marks, great concept and workmanship that goes down in flame (pun intended) as a finished diorama, battle damage that doesn't really convey the story behind the damage, etc is among stuff that i find not up to par as GBWC entries from other sides of the world.
but never the less, thanks to these entries I got a lot of insight on "how not to build my kit".

    1. Well you also need to take in consideration the taste and preferences of the Builder, in my case I prefer nice clean finishes, and hate the idea of damaging my models, just for the sake or approve of other people tastes. If you wonder yes I,m the person that build the Diorama is my very first one and while is simple did you notice that I didn't use any third company product like people in Asia do... I could have get the M.S.G Base from Kotobukiya or other company Hangar bases and Accessories there are plenty and cool ones in the market; just put some Styrene strips give a nice paint/shading Job, decals, washing and finally put piling up stuff and done the same stuff like in Asia, of course not that I'm saying builders from Asia are not good they are always one step above in skill (were you think I learned my stuff from a Japanese builder), then again they also have easy access to materials, tools, paints, models have you ever wander how much money you need to invest to get all those nice tools and stuff; if you live in a city like New York we are easily speaking of 1000 dollars to get the basic tools and materials.
Going back to my stuff I agree that the base need more work but since it was build from left over Bases (MG Strike) and Action Bases practically from scratch. I'm quite happy, I didn't do any crazy stuff like Asian's do in my models but they have plenty of modifications that are well done that people don't even realize that they are modifications only few skilled modelers that have plenty of experience can point them and the paint well man I am a engineer (by career) and hate the idea of damage or scratched stuff (my job and joy is to fix broken stuff and make it better). Now ANY ONE can say that and not back it up right well I can do it. This past April I put my skills to test and went to a Model Competition were Old School rules and so the modelers. All modelers are 50+ years old with plenty of skill and very picky on skill and they prefer American stuff over Japanese stuff; WWII models rules the competition so in simple words Gundam don't have a chance at all. Well what a better place to test your skill right, and yes my friend I won in that competition probing that my skill is not garbage like some ignorant punks say.
last thing the pictures posted here actually don't do justice to show the real colors and small details on my kits.. well I also have a cheap camera.. well that's all for my long bla bla..
